Washington, DC. Always a city at work, always a city on the move. In 2010, the move was west.
WestEnd 25 is the flagship, luxury apartment development in the highly sought after West End district, just steps from Georgetown.
In an extensive redesign of two aging office buildings, architect Shalom Barnes combined sustainable design with, among other things, high-performance exterior wall systems to create a dramatic change in both appearance and efficiency to the existing structures.
Early in the planning process, Tidewater Glazing was selected by the owner and contractor as design-assist partner with the architect. Through our curtain wall and metal panel engineering relationships, we were able to collaborate with the design team in creation of an end product that is both striking and performance-enhanced.
The fašade includes over 85,000 square feet of factory glazed and unitized curtain wall, intricate metal panel applications, balcony railings, glass canopies, monumental entrances and high-end finishes. Through the design-assist collaboration, the complex interface details were resolved while the budget was carefully maintained.
WestEnd 25 is the first residential development in Washington to obtain LEED Gold certification.
